Cost guide

How much does sewer line repair cost in Seattle?

Sewer Line Repair cost in Seattle, WA: what sets the price, and who owns the sewer under the street (the homeowner). Free estimates.

The short answer

A repair is priced by where the damaged section is, how deep, whether it can be fixed from inside or has to be dug, and what sits above it. The camera shows whether one repair solves the problem — or whether the rest of the line is close behind and a replacement is the better spend.

Your number

Your price comes from your line — not a chart

We'd rather give you a real number than a range that doesn't fit your property. The estimate is free: we look at what your job actually needs and put every viable option in writing with its price.

  • Spot repair (excavated) — Dig to one damaged section and replace it
  • Point liner (trenchless) — Line one damaged section from inside

What's different in Seattle

Who pays for the pipe under the street

In Seattle you own the side sewer under the street too. If the problem is in that stretch — or the new line has to reach the main — the right-of-way permit, the work in the street and restoring the pavement are part of your project.

In Seattle you own the whole side sewer — across your yard and on under the street, all the way to where it connects to the public main. SPU owns only the main itself. So a break under the street in Seattle is still yours to fix, including digging up and restoring the street.

Some older Seattle blocks share one side sewer between houses. Each owner is responsible for their own branch; the common section from the junction to the main is shared by everyone upstream. Repairs need a side sewer permit from SPU.

What sets the price

The cost of sewer line repair comes down to these.

01

Location of the defect

A break near the house or in open yard is simpler than one under a driveway, a foundation or the street.

02

Depth

Deeper repairs mean a bigger excavation and more shoring.

03

Dig or line

Some single defects can be lined from inside; others — like a collapsed or badly offset joint — need a dig.

04

The rest of the line

If the camera shows more of the line failing, repeated spot repairs can cost more than one replacement. We tell you when that's the case.
